Neville Goddard and the feeling of a wish fulfilled

Use an ordinary scene from the morning after your goal to explore Goddard’s invitation to imagine from the fulfilled state.

An imagined achievement can become a distant spectacle: a house seen from outside, a stage viewed from the audience, or a life watched as though it belongs to someone else. Neville Goddard’s “Feeling Is the Secret” asks a different question. He invites the reader to consider what the desired state would feel like from within.

"How would I feel were my wish realized?"

The question appears in chapter two of the 1944 book, where Goddard discusses imagination and the state before sleep. He presents a spiritual account of how inner feeling relates to outer experience. This article treats that account as a teaching to explore, rather than scientific proof that imagining a result makes it inevitable.

Imagine the morning after

Choose a scene that implies your desire is already part of life. You have finished an important creative project, and you are making tea the next morning. You have moved into a welcoming home, and you are opening the curtains. You have found a more sustainable way to work, and you are taking an unhurried walk after lunch.

The scene can be quiet. A spectacular celebration might fit some dreams, but ordinary satisfaction often makes a goal more personal. Ask what you would notice without needing to explain it to anyone. The sound of a familiar key in your own door may mean more than a sweeping aerial view of a mansion.

Enter the scene through your senses

Describe one detail from your own point of view. Feel the handle of a cup, hear someone say your name, or notice sunlight on the floor. Add the quality you want to experience: ease, pride, belonging, or possibility. You can use words and sensations even if you do not see vivid pictures in your mind.

In a Mind Movie, Sam and Vibo can lead you into an imaginative world before the narration invites you into your personal scene. The gold cave might evoke abundance; the coast might evoke space. Keep the link explicit in your brief: “This open horizon represents having time to choose my day.” Your meaning matters more than a prescribed symbol.

Try a short evening scene

  1. 1
Choose one meaningful desire, and name the feeling behind it.
  2. 2
Write three sentences describing the morning after, using ordinary sensory details.
  3. 3
Watch or listen comfortably. Let the scene be an invitation, without forcing a feeling.
  4. 4
Repeat one moment if it feels good. Stop when you have had enough; there is no required intensity.
  5. 5
Choose a practical step for tomorrow that supports the direction you imagined.

Keep imagination and reality in conversation

You do not have to deny your present circumstances to enjoy the scene. A goal can matter while there are real obstacles, costs, or other people’s choices involved. Use the practice to clarify what you value and how you want to act. Keep making plans, seeking information, and adjusting when circumstances change.

If a scene feels distant or uncomfortable, make it smaller. Imagine a supported conversation rather than a perfect relationship, or a focused hour rather than complete career transformation. The aim is a feeling you can meet with curiosity. Goddard’s question can open that exploration; your decisions give it a place in your day.
